Before you buy a domain name, check whois history (domain tools.com). Be suspect of changes that have occurred recently, especially changes in administrative email contact. For large domain purchases call the owner to verify history of the domain.
Think before you purchase. In a domain theft, especially a valuable name the thief will want to get rid of it fast, so they will want the transaction to be quick.
Check seller's reputation: find out more about them and especially any past domain sales.
Too good of a deal: As is most always the case, if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. An expensive domain selling for way below value should be a signal.
Register with reputable domain registrar. Moniker and Fabulous have apparently never had a domain stolen. It will be a secure domain name.
Contact Email addresses: Do not use free email accounts. They are too easy to hack into.
Hi this is Mark Mearin with a public awareness message. I have several clients who have been getting emails addressed from a company out of New York. The mail states that registration on the domains is about to expire and you are to respond to the email with all your domain registration information before you lose your domain name. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you respond to emails like this without speaking to an expert or your domain name registrar. If you would like to call me about any similiar emails, I would be more than happy to let you know if it is legit or just another bogus attempt by someone trying to steal your domain names. My number is 602-325-2806.
